Description
Sagunto is much more than a castle or a Roman theater. is a testament to resilience and resistance over more than 22 centuries of history. Resistance understood as the ability to stand firm, to endure, and face adverse, challenging, and sometimes devastating events. And resilience understood as the capacity to recover and overcome the consequences of those events.
If you’d like to explore Sagunto, put on some comfortable shoes and get ready for a scenic walk. Starting from “La Glorieta,” (by the Tourist Info), we’ll head up to the Castle of Sagunto, the longest in Spain (almost 1 km in length), perched on top of a hill at an altitude of around 125-150 meters (depending on how far we want to go).
To make this walk more enjoyable, both on the way up and back down, we’ll stop at some of the city’s most iconic landmarks: the Archaeological Museum, the Roman Theater, the Jewish Quarter, the Casa dels Berenguer, El Calvario, and more. Along the way, we’ll share stories and curiosities about this city that, long ago, played a pivotal role in the history of Spain.
Optional Additions:
The guided tour can be extended to include Sagunto’s two most recent major archaeological discoveries. First, the “Vía del Pórtic,” the longest section of Roman road found in the Valencian Community, complete with porticos, domus, temples, a sewer system, and more. Second, the “Casa dels Peixos,” a Roman domus featuring various rooms with remnants of pictorial decoration in the impluvium.
If the visit is extended to include the Vía del Pórtic and the Casa dels Peixos, the total duration of the guided walk will be approximately 4-5 hours, with a brief pause to rest and enjoy a refreshing drink.

To round off your visit to Sagunto, you can include a tasting of 4 wines made from the Mourvèdre grape variety, native to this ancient city where it has been cultivated for over 20 centuries.
